Separate Salt from Water - STEM Activity - STEM Experiment

Can you really separate salt from water? Is it possible once the salt has been dissolved? Please note this involves hot water - that’s why its graded between 3 and 5. This is suitable for younger students if supervised. This experiment could also take a few days to see results. Best done over two lessons (not back to back). Throughout this experiment your students will test two theories. Those who think you can separate salt from water will be on a quest to prove the theory right. Those who think it cannot be separated will also be on a quest to prove their theory right. What’s included in this resource Teacher Notes Material + Checklist and Prediction sheet Experiment instructions Conclusion sheet Assessment of knowledge sheet - Did your students actually understand the experiment they performed Please note: Watermarks/blurred images will not be in your downloaded file! All files are in PDF. This resource will download as a zip folder. These STEM based activities have been designed with the key component being ‘critical thinking.’ There is no minimum age for these activities, younger students will need a little more supervision and the step-by-step guides read to them. A good opportunity to observe fine motor skills with younger students! Bat Flying - Yes a little Halloween. I have incorporated this with a lesson on nocturnal animals. Your students are to design and create a bat with the limited materials supplied. Salt Crystal Leaves - Your students will learn to crystallise leaves with salt. Step-by-step guide included. I have incorporated this as part of a science lesson in the past. Measuring different quantities of salt and the time for crystallisation. Also whether it works with cold water. Skeletal Bone Bridge - Your students will build a bridge testing for strength and length using Q-tips. All craft supplies are items you would have in your classroom! Suitable for: Supply folder After-School Activities Small Groups Individual Activities Break the Ice Back to School Activities ▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼ Copyright © Laurena Lakeside.
